Oregon City Summer Lacrosse

Oregon City “End of the Trail” Lacrosse Tournament 2015 Saturday, July 11th.

We have signed up a team to participate in the Oregon City End of the Trail Lacrosse Tourney on July 11th.

This has been a great event for us in the past and we are the 3-Time defending Champs.

Please let me know if you are in town and interested in playing some Summer Lax with us.  I'll compile a roster and get you more info as we get closer.

Cost will be around $20.00/player and we hope to get five games in one day. More information will be provided closer to game day.

Rob Robinette
Sherwood Bowmen Lacrosse
PARTICIPANTS
Participants can include incoming Freshman (Class of 2019) through incoming Seniors (Class of 2016).

RULES:

1. 20 min running-clock halves.
2. 5 min halftime.
3. No time-outs
4. Next game will start in 15 min so please clear the field quickly.
5. In order to keep the games moving quickly I would like to modify the substitution rule as follows:

No substitution horn. On a whistle, play will be restarted as quickly as possible. However, teams may substitute as if there was a horn. As long as the players leaving the field are running toward their team bench and away from the play, their replacements are allowed to take the field immediately. Teams will NOT be penalized for illegal substitutions or too many men on the field as long as the players continue toward the bench area and leave the field quickly, without interfering with play. My goal here is to get as much quality playing time as we can out of these short games. If a majority of you, and the referees are cool with this adjustment we will go with it.

6. Goalies will not serve penalties (anybody on the field can serve for them)
7. There will not be time during pre-game for a coin toss so this will be done prior to the tournament to determine first alternating possession for every game.
8. Time will be kept at a central location so if coaches want to know how much time is left in a half they will need to start their own stopwatch at the sound of the horn.

SCORING:

Round robin scoring:
Win in regulation - 5 pts
Overtime win - 4 pts
Overtime loss - 2 pts
1 pt per regulation goal, max of 8 per game

Bracket Play: (Based on 12 teams participating in tournament, move to bracket based on Point totals from Pool Play by pool.)

Bracket 1 (Champions Bracket): Will include the first place team from each bracket and the highest point total 2nd place team for a total of 4 teams.  Highest point value 1st place team will play the 2nd place team and the other two 1st place teams will play each other.  Winning teams will move to Championship game.

Bracket 2 (Consolation Bracket): Will include the remaining 2nd place teams and the two highest point gaining 3rd place teams.  Highest point 2nd place team will play the lowest point 3rd place team that moves to this bracket and the remaining two teams will play each other.  Winner from these games move to Consolation Winners game.

Other Consolation games:  Lowest 3rd place point team will play the highest 4th place point team and the remaining two 4th place teams will play each other.  This will be their final games.

OVERTIME AND TIE BREAKERS:

Overtime for all games will be Brave Heart style immediately following 2nd half. (we need to make this quick to stay on schedule)

Brave Heart Rules:

• Each team quickly fields a goalie and a field player who are properly equipped and ready to play.

• Officials may inspect field crosses before the tiebreaker begins; no coach-requested checks.

• Teams defend the same goal they defended in the second half.

• Teams do not have to use the goalies on the field at the end of regulation but there is no time to switch equipment.

• The field players face off at center.

• Goalies must be behind their restraining lines during the faceoff.

• The goalies may not cross midfield.

• The first team to score a goal wins.

• There are no timeouts or substitutions permitted except in the case of injury (in which case the opponent may also substitute a player).

• If a team commits what would normally be a timeserving penalty during the tiebreaker, play is restarted with the offended team’s field player at the restraining line going in. The offending team's field player will start back behind the midfield line.

• All other standard rules apply, including counts.

A best-of-three Brave Heart will also be used to settle ties in the standings after round robin play. Teams will be given a few minutes to prepare three field players and a goalie for this.

TEAM WAIVERS:

We will have waivers for the Coaches to sign at the tournament, please make sure your players are physically and mentally prepared to compete and properly equipped.

DISPUTED ISSUES:

As the tournament organizer, I (Jeff Wallace) will make the final ruling if there are any disputes.

The 2015 Sherwood High School Boy's Lacrosse season
will be played in honor of Emma Aanderud.

Emma is a sophomore at Sherwood High School who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia September 2014. Emma found a match and had a bone marrow transplant in February of this year. On March 8th, 2015 it was announced that Emma was cancer free!
Fundraising by the Bowmen LAX team this year included 50/50 raffle ticket sales at all home games. The team will also sold T-shirts and "Team Emma" wrist bands. $1000 was raised and donated to the Aanderud Family.
The boys wear Orange Ribbons on their helmets and Orange End Caps on their sticks to raise awareness for people fighting Leukemia.

The next home games are on April 7th vs. Beaverton.

JV/JV2 Parent Info

JV & JV2 Players and Parents
Looking forward to an exciting year of lacrosse. The players are working hard as we have our first games for both JV and JV2 this week. In fact, JV has two games this week.
We have received several questions about schedules, transportation, etc., so I have a few bullet points for you. In general, most answers are on the website, so please spend a few moments reviewing the website as part of prepping for the season, (players and parents). You will be amazed at what is on there. Our IT team is awesome!
  • Practice Adjustment-Today/Monday practice is at 3:30pm-4:45pm at Sunset Park
  • Schedules-Website
  • Coach Contact Info-Website
  • Bus Times-Website usually, with reminder from coaches
  • Meet up times at SHS for JV2 rides to away games-Website or coaches
  • JV2 Involvement in JV Games-As a rule, the JV2 players will not suit up for JV games. We will at times invite JV2 players to swing to play JV, and for a few games, we will have the entire JV2 team dress for a game.
  • JV2 Players attendance at V/JV Games-JV2 players are strongly encouraged to attend and watch either the JV or V game on nights there are home games. The JV2 will most likely not have practice those nights, so the expectation is they catch one of the games to learn, and to support the program. The JV2 players do not need to stay for both games.
  • JV Players attendance at V Games-The lacrosse program strongly encourages JV players to stay to watch the V game. There are exceptions, (i.e., homework). If we are at an away game, a parent must come talk to Coach Grubbe if a player is not going to ride the bus home with the team.
  • Bend/Sisters Trip-On the weekend of April 3rd & 4th, we will be playing regular JV games in Sisters and in Bend, (not a tourney). All JV and JV2 players will be invited.
  • SALI Tournament-In May we will be attending the SALI lacrosse tournament in Sisters. All JV and JV2 players will be invited.
  • Scorekeepers, Timers, Stats, and Spotters-We are looking for committed parents with a desire to be in the action! JV and JV2 both need a couple more volunteers to keep the scorebook, time, spot, and keep stats. If you are a parent who wants to be at the table right by the team boxes, please see the parent volunteer sign up sheet on the website. We can use JV parents starting Tuesday night at our first game, so please visit the site and sign up right away. I know we have Eryn Ross for sure for JV, (thank you Eryn!), but she needs help, and we are looking for JV2 parents as well.
Please be in touch with any questions. You can email me, or call (503)539-8740.

Scorekeepper Training

Hi all,

A great way to volunteer and help us out is to keep the scorebook at the table.  We need a couple volunteers for each team and this is a critical role we need filled.

Let me know if you are interested and we will get you on the volunteer list.

Please see below for the OHSLA training course.  We would like all scorekeeppers to attend this course so we are consistent with our data.

Thanks,

Players and Parents,

Again this year, we will be taking orders for Bowmen Lacrosse helmets. We offer a great deal, $210 for the best helmet on the market, the Cascade R.  This helmet lists for $310 and can be found on the internet for $250. This helmet or the older Cascade Pro 7, is required for all varsity players. The Bowmen Lacrosse program takes seriously the risk of concussions and that is why we have chosen the Cascade R as our team helmet.

We will place three orders, the first in early December, so that helmets can be a Christmas gift. If you have any questions, please contact Chris West at christopheriwest@outlook.com or 503-625-6683.

PREVIOUSLY purchased Cascade R Helmets must be MODIFIED and
RE-CERTIFIED by the manufacture to meet NOSCAE Certification for the 2015 season. Please follow the instructions below.

Instructions To Return a Cascade R Helmet For Certified Modification

To return a helmet for certified modification, enter your information by clicking on the below link. Upon receipt of this information, Cascade will send a pre-paid shipping label to you. Once you receive the label, put your Cascade R helmet in a box, affix the shipping label and send the helmet to Cascade. When the helmet arrives at Cascade’s facility, it will be professionally updated with the certified modification and a tamper-resistant sticker will be applied to the helmet to prove it has completed the certified modification. The helmet will then be sent back to you.

Cascade will make the modification to existing helmets at its Liverpool, N.Y. facility beginning December 16. The modification will be free of charge for consumers and retailers, including shipping.

Concession Volunteer Scheduling

Parents,

We would like to thank everyone that has participated helping with the Concessions so far this season.  The Concessions Volunteer Schedule is listed on the web site Bowmen Lax - Parent Volunteer Page, please visit the site and note when you are scheduled to volunteer.

The concessions stand is an opportunity for parents to give back to the organization that sponsors all of the activities at Sherwood High School, the Booster Club!  They have given the Boy's Lacrosse program nearly 500 balls and 60 practice pennies just this season.  All of our uniforms come from their sponsorship as well as much more.

Almost every High School activity has a requirement for parents to work a shift in the concessions stand, this was addressed at the Parent Meeting.  If you are not available to work your assigned time, you may find another family to switch with or find someone responsible, over 18 years of age, to fill in for you.  This is not the Concession Coordinator or Team Mom's responsibility, they are just the messengers.  Scheduling is done to limit interference with you watching your sons play.

If you have any questions regarding this please contact Mike Schaefer at ThreeMC4@AOL.Com

Once again, we would like to thank you all for your support.

 Go Bowmen!

VARSITY NW LEAGUE
CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

The dates for the NW Conference Championship Tournament have changed. We will play on Saturday, May 11 and Tuesday, May 14. Due to a possible field scheduling conflict, OHSLA has granted the opportunity to play on Tuesday instead of Monday. We now have all game times confirmed and are good to go!  Below is the updated tournament schedule. Thank you all for your patience!

Sherwood Bowmen Lacrosse

In a message dated 4/20/2013 9:53:58 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time, threemc4@aol.com writes:

The Northwest Conference Lacrosse Championship Tournament will be hosted by Sherwood High School this season. This Tournament will determine the League Champion and how the four top teams are seeded into the State Playoff Bracket.

The format for selection of teams for the tournament will be the same as last season and consistent with the OHSLA Standard Operating Procedures. It is unlikely we will be able to determine teams until the last conference game is completed on May 9.

There will be a Gate Fee for spectators, Adults $5 and Students $3.

All games will be played at the Sherwood High School stadium, 16956 SW Meinecke Road, Sherwood OR 97140.

Game Schedule:
Saturday, May 11:
Game 1 @ 10 AM, #2 VS #3
Game 2 @ Noon, #1 VS #4

Tuesday, May 14:
Game 3 @ 6 PM, Loser Game 1 VS Loser Game 2
Game 4 @ 8 PM, Winner Game 1 VS Winner Game 2

For placing teams from the NWC into the OHSLA Playoff Brackets:
Winner of Game 4 will be the #1 Seed
Loser of Game 4 will be the #2 Seed
Winner of Game 3 will be the #3 Seed
Loser of Game 3 will be the #4 Seed

If any team has questions, please contact Mike Schaefer, threemc4@aol.com

It has been suggested the NW Conference purchase a trophy to be passed to the winning team each season. I know Liberty and Sherwood support this idea. Would everyone else please give us your thoughts?

All JVII and JV (non swinger) players will be on the roster.  We need to know who will be attending ASAP!  We understand there is a conflict with the Jr/Sr Prom on Saturday night.
